The third season of Lost, some would argue, suffered from its unorthodox schedule. It was broken into two parts: a six episode opening that focused on the imprisonment of Jack, Kate and Sawyer by “The Others,” and then the rest of the season with an eight week break separating the two. Many complained that the first part did not give much airtime to fan favorites like Locke or Sayid and that too many new mysteries were added with too few answers. Ratings began to fall as viewers gave up. And then everything changed. The second half of season three contains some of the best episodes of the entire series. Most notably the Desmond-centric “Flashes Before Your Eyes,” which takes the flashback scenario and turns it on its head while “Man Behind The Curtain” shows us a young Ben arriving on the island for the first time. Everything comes together in the fantastic, jaw-dropping season finale, “Through The Looking Glass.” As a whole, season three of Lost is as strong as the previous two. Longtime mysteries are solved. (How was Locke paralyzed? Who killed Sawyers’ parents?) New questions are asked. Who or what is Jacob? What is Ben’s “Magic Box”? If you gave up early in the season, the DVD release is your chance to see what you missed. Just brush up on your anagram skills.
