DJs Mathematix & Dewey Decimal!
“LICK! started in April of 2005 by a friend of mine, Shannon Carroll. He started the night to have a queer and inclusive dance night, for ‘dykes, trannies, fags, and friends’ (as our posters say). It was, in many ways, a response to the queer club scene which was segregated based on gender and rather mainstream.
After the first year, I became a resident DJ and took over the night from Shannon after the second year, due to a change in his schedule that made him unable to be the promoter for the night. I ran the night for 8 more months, when DJ Dewey Decimal joined me as the other resident DJ. After that time, it became impossible for me to have a monthly night because of my schedule and I decided to put LICK! into retirement. It was still a very popular and distinctly unique queer club night, which made it a difficult decision for me to stop doing LICK!.
As a trans-identified queer myself, having an outwardly inclusive space is very important and holds a significant amount of value to me. It’s not just for trans folks. It’s for gender-queers and fags and dykes and everyone between!”
In regard to the future, DJ Mathematix adds, “Yes, LICK!’s not dead and there will be more LICK!’s to look forward to. Expect a Saturday night in August with more details to come.”

YAY!!! I am shannon carroll, the original promoter for LICK! and I’m so happy to see that Seattle recognizes the uniqueness of this night and all the hard work that Mathmatix and Slaven have put into it. Lick is still as cutting edge as ever, and is needed more than ever in a time where our queer entertainment is taking a more and more mainstream turn.
Thanks Guys!!!
