The latest from Seattle’s very own lesbian rap duo Team Gina, “Products of the Eighties” namechecks eighties pop culture trivia rapid-fire, “We Didn’t Start the Fire”- or “It’s the End of the World As We Know It”-style. All over bumping, eighties-synth powered beats. And if dancey fun wasn’t enough, Team Gina follows through with their conceit in an unexpected way: After spending most of the song referencing things like the Oregon Trail computer game, Garbage Pail Kids, He-Man, and Saved By the Bell, Team Gina takes a serious turn towards the end, chanting, “No day without AIDS in my lifetime / Don’t tell me everything will be all fine.” If listening to this by yourself over the internet doesn’t do it for you, don’t fret. Team Gina plays a CD release show tonight at the War Room at 9pm. It won’t just be you dancing in your socks in your bedroom, we promise.
