With their new group Blue Giant, Kevin and Anita Robinson of Viva Voce have not only welcomed two new members (drummer Evan Rallton and bassist/organist Seth Lorinczi), but have also embraced a fuller, country-leaning sound. Instead of the psychedelic rock balancing act between Kevin’s drumming and Anita’s guitar licks that defined Viva Voce, Blue Giant surrounds vocal melodies with country staples like slide guitar, harmonica, and piano. “Target Heart” is a slow, understated number that layers reverb-heavy vocals over a simple, strummed guitar. As the song builds, soaring lead guitar and subtle piano riffs are added to the mix to powerful effect.
