At 5pm yesterday, Andrew Harms, the well-known evening DJ/heart-and-soul of alternative powerhouse station 107.7 The End announced on the air that there will be some changes in this year’s Endfest. The festival, which was set for Saturday, September 13, at Marymoor Park will now be held on the same day, but inside the Experience Music Project. In addition, all four performers, the Presidents of the United States of America, Everlast, the Ting Tings and the Airborne Toxic Event will be performing unplugged. The show will be completely free, perhaps the largest shock considering that always, throughout it’s 17-year history, Endfest has had a ticket price attached.
When asked about the changes, Harms replied, via e-mail, that, “There is a lot of competition for shows out there and a free show featuring unique, acoustic performances from all these artists seemed much more interesting and appealing than another festival for 40 bucks a ticket.”
What Harms didn’t mentioned is that the planned headliners of Endfest 2008, punk legends Bad Religion, mysteriously dropped off the date at Marymoor Park and hopped on a gig at the always intimate El Corazon with local band On The Last Day and the Hollowpoints. Tickets for this show are on sale now, going for $23.50. Pushed to offer an explanation, Harms gave Bad Religion fans, and Sound for that matter, an interesting tidbit to chew on.
“I wouldn’t bet a million dollars that the ‘competing’ show is the only time they are playing that night,” writes Harms.
